Carl Edwards finished second Sunday at NASCAR's Dover (Del.) Sprint Cup race, his fourth top-10 in a row, but is more concerned about the ground lost to race winner and series leader Kyle Busch.
Edwards was tied with Busch for most season victories before Busch scored his fourth win at Dover. Edwards is stuck in fourth place in the points standings. "If Kyle Busch and I end up fighting for the championship at the end of the year," Edwards said in a teleconference Tuesday, "what happened Sunday at Dover was literally like giving Kyle 20 points. We didn't get 10 and he did. … Winning is important." Edwards blames his second-place finish at Dover on the track more than the Car of Tomorrow. He struggled to pass cars Sunday, giving Busch a comfortable win. "Dover, to me, has always been a little tough to pass at," Edwards said. "But I don't know if it is the car or just how close the competition is." While Edwards says the COT has issues — like difficulty turning at Dover because of the front splitter — he likes its adaptability. "With the car we run at Pocono (next weekend), we could go run at Bristol," he says. Fond wishes: A week after Danica Patrick criticized Ryan Briscoe for knocking her out of the Indianapolis 500, she congratulated Briscoe on his first IndyCar Series victory. Briscoe won Sunday's race at the Milwaukee Mile while Patrick settled for ninth. "You know what, I'm happy that he got his win," Patrick said Monday. "He deserves a big congratulation. … He obviously had a good car. He was driving around people like they were sitting still sometimes." Briscoe and Patrick failed to finish the 500 after Briscoe's car slammed into Patrick's leaving pit lane with 30 laps remaining. Patrick and Briscoe later talked, but neither took blame for the incident. "We don't agree on what happened," Patrick said. "That's the past, this is now. I will race him fair every lap of my career because that's the type of driver I am, and I expect the same in return." Contributing: Wire reports
